5 reasons to visit Romania.

Monasteries, castles and fortified churches are perfectly situated in a wonderful landscape. In the cities located in the Carpathians, the former Saxon settlements such as Sibiu and Brasov, have a kind of charm, while the capital is overcrowded, but full of energy and history. We are going to present ten reasons why it is worth visiting Romania.

  1. Amazing castles

Romania has no lack of bright landscapes and castles that leave you with a mouth waterfall, located on rocky hills. Bran Castle has an incredibly false connection with Stoker’s (Dracula) narrative, but other places like Peles  Castle or Corvin Castle from the 14th century are just as unique. Maramures prides itself on cities and villages that look exactly like in the Middle Ages, with fan heads, carts with horses and wooden churches. Due to its rich medieval history, Romania is full of beautiful castles in different states of reconditioning.

  1. Natural landscapes

Romania has a huge amount of virgin forests, as well as the largest population of brown bears in all of Europe, being an ideal destination for nature lovers. The Carpathian Mountains cross the center of the country, and the combination of virgin landscapes and picturesque villages makes the perfect route for anyone who wants to go on hikes or just to visit. The Carpathians boast a multitude of rocky peaks surrounded by deciduous forests. Many landscapes have not been touched by people and a fairly large network of cottages offers accommodation for people who are curious enough to visit the peaks.

  1. Authentic villages and medieval cities

Most people who have heard about Transylvania are familiar with the name because of Dracula, but this part of the country is home to some villages that were not “affected” by modern civilization, looking exactly like two or three centuries ago. The central part of the country has beautifully preserved villages and medieval cities, such as Brasov, Sibiu, Alba Iulia, Cluj or Sighisoara whose unique fortresses make you feel as if you are going back in time.

  1. Romania is multi cultural

An incredible reason to visit Romania is its cultural diversity. You will hear Germans and Hungarians in Transylvania or Turks in Dobrogea. You will visit Orthodox , Catholic and Evangelical churches, as well as mosques and synagogues. You will see thousands of tourists in Bucharest and people who have never seen strangers in the Carpathians.

  1. Historic restaurants and delicious food

Romanians love food. Point. Wherever you go in Romania, you will find friendly cooks, happy to serve you traditional dishes. If you go to a restaurant, remember that some have German, Turkish and Hungarian influences that can be found in the Romanian cuisine, but still maintain an identifiable character. If you plan to visit Romania, be prepared to return from the holiday with a few extra kilos. In addition, compared to the tasty food, Romania hosts very old restaurants, with beautiful interiors, traditional ornaments and painted ceilings. The most famous are located in the historical center of Bucharest, such as Crama Domneasca, Casa Doina or Caru ‘cu Bere.Romanians are famous for their hospitality and friendship, so don’t hesitate to put Romania on the first place on your holiday list.
